After the whiskey/bourbon has been distilled, it is ready to be proofed and barreled and carefully placed in the Frey Ranch Barrel House. The Barrel House is unique in that it is un-heated and un-airconditioned, extreme temperatures are welcomed and the spirits expand and contract in the hot summers and cold winters. The charred interior of the barrels contain carbon, which helps filter the whiskey by absorbing the impurities, creating a desirable smooth bourbon. Barrel House #1 at Frey Ranch is full and has the capability of storing 1,456 whole size (53 gal) whiskey barrels, that’s over a half million bottles depending of the angels share or the rate of evaporation. Currently barrel house #2 is being filled, and when full will hold 8,420 full sized Whiskey barrels.
